The Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has successfully piloted its point-of-sale system at three locations, CIPO, Inland Revenue Department, and the Customs and Excise Department. The Customs and Excise Department spans the length and breadth of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, thus for a start, only the Kingstown, AIA, and Campden Park locations currently offer the service. Within the coming months, the Government will expand this service across other departments. The Inland Revenue Department leads the way regarding the number of transactions done and is closely followed by the Customs and Excise Department.
This Government initiative is geared towards greater efficiency and saving time. Normally, customers will use the banks to withdraw cash and still join lines to conduct business with the Government. However, this point-of-sale initiative limits the customer to one line and provides greater security as it is cashless. Customers should note that there are no additional fees attached when the cards are used at Government departments.
Nevertheless, this means of conducting business with the Government still requires the customer to come in person but the Ministry of Finance in collaboration with the Information Technology Services Department (ITSD) is quite busy further securing the Government's network in preparation for the piloting of an interim E-commerce platform. Undoubtedly, security cannot be neglected for greater efficiency and the team of experts remains committed to this initiative.
